Educational Assistance Grant Fund

"NAMC is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization and any donation to this fund is 100% tax deductable."


Purpose: To provide financial educational assistance to any dependant of a Combat Medic or Corpsmen, from any United States Military service.

 Length of Activity: Perpetual

 Grant Usage: This Grant is for specific usage to the award recipient for those materials and costs associated with higher education pursuits that are not provided by survivor benefits granted by the Veterans Administration or the United States Government. More over; computer systems and components, educational literature, books, study materials, software and educational tools are the specific targets for usage of this Grant.

The Grant may not be used for tuition purposes.

 Amount and Application Deadlines: The Grant is a straight forward non-attached Grant, free of any encumbrances, of $500 (five hundred dollars). Funds are granted directly to the recipient or legal guardian of the recipient who is financially responsible for the applicant’s educational endeavors. Applications are accepted from 1 January through 1 April each year. Grant is awarded annually on 30 June of that year.

 Specific Application Requirements:

1) This is a competitive grant system where the applicant is required to submit an essay to the Grantor (NAMC Grant Administrator) of 500 words of less on “What it means to be an American”.

2) Copy of letter of enrollment or proof document from the registration offices the educational facility, Trade School, Junior College, Private School, or University.

3) Documented proof of loss of parent who served in a combat zone as a corpsman or medic in service with the United States Armed Forces. This may be a letter from DOD or Veterans Administration.

4) A letter of support from the surviving spouse of the deceased Veteran, or legal guardian of the applicant.

6) Age restrictions are applied: Age of the applicant must be from 14 (fourteen) years to 23 (twenty three) years of age.

7) A recipient that is awarded a grant may apply for the following year without restriction up to age 24 (twenty four).

8) As a general rule there will be only one Grant awarded per year. However, at the discretion of the Board of Directors and under special considerations the Board may elect to grant up to 2 (two) grants per year dependant upon availability of funds.

 Funding and Management of the Grant: The Board of Directors of the National Association of Medics and Corpsmen has authorized seed funds of $250 from the general operating funds to initiate this Educational Assistance Grant. Those funds are deposited into a specific interest bearing account with associated control through the appointed Grant Administrator, the Commander of NAMC, the Executive Secretary of NAMC, and the immediate past Commander of NAMC, hereafter known as the Educational Grant Awards Committee.

1) The Treasurer of NAMC is hereby directed to allocate 10% of all received membership dues

to this account as they are applied to the general fund.

2) The Association will accept any donations from members, corporations, businesses, estates, or private funds with specific earmarks to this fund.

3) There are no administration charges, fees or cost applied to this fund.  

4) The Administrator in conjunction with the current NAMC Commander may suspend fund activity or award of Grant (s) if the funds available on deposit do not support the activity.

5) The Association Treasurer shall incorporate all fund activity in his/her Quarterly report to the Board of Directors of NAMC.

6) The Commander of NAMC shall at his/her discretion appoint the Educational Grant Administrator out of the general membership in good standing.

        A) The Administrator duties shall be as described as above and:

        B) Collect, receive; review for eligibility all Grant applications.

        C) Supply copies of those applications to the Commander, past Commander, and the Executive Secretary for review (the Educational Grant Awards Committee)

         D) Coordinate the voting on the applications by the Committee and report those results not later than 15 May each year to the Board of Directors for approval.

         E) Hold for record all applications and associated documents for 2 years. Compile an annual activity report to the Board and general membership not later than,  1 August annually. This document shall be incorporated in the minutes of the Association.

         F) Assume all responsibility for the correspondence associated with the Educational Assistance Grant Program.

         G) Insure the “Program” is advertised to major higher educational institutions, Veterans Administration, Veteran Groups, and is advertised on the NAMC web site.

         H) Publish application documents and coordinate with the Webmaster an on line application attached to the NAMC web site.

         I) Direct cost associated with administration of this fund, such as mail, printing cost, etc. shall be reimbursable through the general operating fund of the Association not the Grant fund. The Administrator shall communicate and supply appropriate documentation to the Treasurer for reimbursement.

 Amendments: May be made from time to time by the Administrator and the Educational Grant Awards Committee to this “Program”. However the changes of policy and procedures, amendments and any financial structure adjustments must be approved by an action of the NAMC Board of Directors, so noted in the minutes, within 3 months of that change, adjustment or amendment.
